Cosmetic Skin Care Continued

Collagen Replacement Therapy bolsters the body's own natural store of collagen and helps fill in lines and wrinkles caused by aging or sun damage. As the collagen produced by certain animals is quite similar to that produced naturally by humans, the therapy uses purified animal collagen, which is injected directly into the areas where corrective measures are needed or wanted. Not everyone can be treated with collagen due to allergic reactions in some people.

Botox, a specially developed toxin, is also injected to smooth out wrinkles and bring a more youthful appearance to damaged or aging skin. In both of these, the immediate effects are dramatic. However, both collagen and Botox are treatments which require regular follow-ups since the injections are eventually absorbed into the body and the corrective effects are lost. Treatments can last as few as three months or as long as a year.

These treatments can sometimes be expensive and they should always be performed by licensed professionals in order in insure that the work is done properly (and to lessen the chance of the “cure” doing more damage to the skin).

Other Options

There are, of course, other less drastic forms of cosmetic skin care available to those who need or want it. Herbal treatments are available for treating acne scars, oily skin and other skin conditions without the use of chemicals or lasers or surgical options.

Some experts swear that topical Vitamin C is a wonderful way to improve skin tone and elasticity. And there is also a wealth of over-the-counter cosmetic treatments designed to reduce wrinkles, combat acne, open pores, reverse oily skin, moisturize dry skin and help in the battle with other skin conditions.
