Lip Enlargement
Lip enlargement, also referred to as lip augmentation or lip enhancement, is a type of cosmetic plastic surgery that is performed on men and women of all ages to increase the size of one or both lips for cosmetic purposes. Most people requesting lip enlargements have thin, small, or asymmetrical lips, either due to aging or genetics. In addition, lip enlargements will continue to be popular as long as the “pouty,” full-lipped look is in fashion.
Lip enlargement was first used by plastic surgeons in the 1960s. It is just one of many cosmetic surgeries that are popular today, including: chin reshaping, facelifts, neck and eyelid lifts, and rhinoplasty. Lip enlargement is a relatively safe and easy procedure, requiring as little as 20 minutes in the doctor's office. It can also be a more complicated procedure that requires one to two weeks of recovery.
Lip Enlargement Procedures
Lip enlargement can be either permanent or semi-permanent. Typically, lip enlargement is a stand-alone procedure; but occasionally, it is combined with other cosmetic procedures such as an eyelift or chin augmentation. Lip enlargement is performed under local anesthesia and may be combined with topical or oral anesthesia. Patients may be sedated as well.
