Lip Enlargement Continued
Surgical procedures for lip enlargement usually consist of one of several different methods, including injectable implants such as Artecoll, Softform, and Radiance, and skin fillers such as collagen, fat, Hylaform, Perlane, and Restylane, and fat grafting.
Artecoll and Softform are synthetically derived injectable implants. Radiance is made from calcium hydroxylapatite, a substance that has been used in prosthetic implants for many years but remains soft when injected into soft tissue. It lasts longer than collagen injections, typically 3 to 5 years.
Collagen is a bovine-derived substance. Fat, of course, comes from fat cells within your own body. Hylaform, Restylane, and Perlane are made from a chemically modified substance called hyaluronic acid that naturally occurs in the body.
Injectable implants and skin fillers are semi-liquids that are injected into the lips to make them fuller. They are well suited to fixing asymmetries, or for all-over lip enlargement, and may be used repeatedly without side effects. These are the simplest and most commonly used procedures used for lip enlargements. Grafting requires more substantial surgical procedures and recovery times, and is more permanent. Collagen and fat injections are the least permanent, while synthetic implants and skin fillers are somewhere in between the two.
