Male Cosmetic Surgery

The number of men who are turning to cosmetic surgery to correct and improve their appearance is growing every year. By one account, 1.2 million men in the United States underwent corrective cosmetic surgery in 2003 -- a 28 percent increase from 2002.

The reasons for this trend are subjective in nature. Some say that an increasing number of men are beginning to understand how many women have long felt -- that frown lines and wrinkles can have a detriment on their appearance in the workplace, and even with respect to the opposite sex. Others simply believe that it reflects a change in the way men feel about having work done, that they no longer view plastic surgery as a procedure for women alone.

This trend could be related to the growing number of men who also get manicures and facials. In fact, many of the requests that men have when it comes to plastic surgery are similar to those that women want, including thinner waistlines, less wrinkles, face lifts, and nose jobs.
