Red Lipstick

For most women, red lipstick represents glamour and mystique. Bold and striking, most red lipstick is not for the meek. Although it can be worn day or night, red lipstick is not generally worn as an everyday lipstick color but rather in the evening with a little black dress or on special occasions. When wearing red lipstick, the minimalist approach is preferred for the rest of the makeup palette. In this case, less is more. No one wants to look like a clown.

Women have used lipstick or lip rouge for centuries, dating back to ancient Egypt, when women used to paint their lips with henna. Lipstick is similar to a crayon, consisting of oils, waxes, pigments or colors, and emollients that are melted, mixed, and poured into a lipstick mold. Not only does red lipsticks come in a variety of shades, it also comes in a number of finishes such as matte, cream, gloss, frosted, sheer, stains, and what cosmetic companies call long-lasting.
