Skin Care Equipment

Professional spas and beauty clinics often use larger, more complex skin care equipment than what we use in our homes. Often, more expensive equipment can provide a fuller range of treatments than smaller home units. These units can cost over $1,000 and additional costs for supplies also need to be paid. Professional spa equipment may also be used to provide more esoteric treatments that the average home user might only partake of once or twice per year.

Let's discuss some of the skin care equipment used at some of the more popular day spas:
  • Skin Scanner - This is a very useful piece of equipment for skin care professionals. The scanner can display damage caused to skin by the sun's ultraviolet rays. The clinician can then discuss with the client how to treat the affected areas, and the results of the treatment can be assessed by doing follow-up scans on subsequent visits.

  • Microdermabrasion console - There are now portable home microdermabrasion kits available that are reasonably priced, but professional consoles can cost up to and even over $10,000. These professional consoles are best operated by trained clinicians. They can be very effective in removing age spots and reducing fine lines and wrinkles without resorting to invasive surgical procedures.
